Why Copywriting Is Critical To Your Success

Website copywriting, like advertising copy, needs to have immediate impact. Our attention spans, particularly on the web are short, so it’s vital to get attention early.

Writing for the web also requires an understanding of keywords, design and layout. This not only helps users read your content, it also search engines find you.

More importantly, it’s a critical part in helping persuade visitors to action. Getting your copy right will make your website work smarter not harder. The more compelling your copy is – the more results you will get selling your product or service.

What Makes Good Copy

The copy on each page of your site not only needs to speak to your audience and clearly show how your product or services solves their problems, it also needs to work for search engines by being relevant and meaningful.

Good copy will:

  • Persuade the reader to take the action
  • Make your reader either want to get more information from you or give you their contact details
  • Focus on benefits not just features
  • Communicate the benefits quickly, simply and effectively
  • Give visitors a reason to stay on your site and will convert visitors into customer

 

 

Passive Aggressive Popups – yay or nay?

Pop ups (aka Pop Up Overlays) on websites are all the rage but there been this trend in recent time for popups to become a little passive aggressive – even downright arrogant.

You know the ones I mean – the pop ups that give you two options and make you feel stupid for not opting in.

For example:

  1. Yes, give me the free ebook
  2. No, thanks. I prefer to suck at conversions.

Most people we speak to hate popups?  They make for a terrible user experience. Many website users hate them and many business don;t like to use them

If you are not sure what a popup is, its those annoying boxes that pop up while you are reading a website. They block page engagement and interrupt when you try to do things like read a page or buy something. To close them, you need to click the the little x button to close them.

But they can be incredibly effective.

Aweber, a popular email marketing software, ran a test and found that a lightbox popup helped drive an extra 1375% signups.

So what should you do?

Firstly aim to grow your email list but follow some simple guidelines:

  • dont make users feel stupid
  • make it easy for them to close the box
  • Consider using popup that are based on user technology
